PhantomFX - Explore the World of Animation at Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) 2024

The city of dreams, Mumbai, is renowned as a launch pad for many pioneers of Indian cinema.

This bustling capital, where aspirations come to life, hosts the Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF), a vibrant platform that showcases the finest works by Indian and international film experts.

Established in 1990, and originally known as the Bombay International Film Festival, MIFF has evolved into a significant event organized by the National Films Development Corporation of India (NFDC) under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. MIFF 2024 promises to be an extraordinary global stage for storytelling, bringing together talents worldwide.

From the Bay of Marina to the ever-shining Mumbai, our PhantomFX intellect shines as our Founder/CEO and VFX Director Bejoy Arputharaj was honored to showcase PhantomFX's talents through the effects of Ayalaan at MIFF 2024.

This year, the panel featured  "Explore how intellectual properties are built through animation films with case studies on ‘Ayalaan’ and ‘Chhota Bheem’."

The panel delved into the historical achievements and significance of these projects, which have captivated Indian households and highlighted the creativity, potential, and quality of India's Animation & visual effects industry.

Key discussions included the registration aspects of copyright and trademark, the importance of holding your IPR, and how fictional characters are protected under Indian laws transforming into an insightful and enriching session.

"Being a service company means putting a lot of creativity into your work; but ultimately, you don't own what you create. This realization drove us to develop and own our character. Owning intellectual property (IP) may not yield immediate financial returns, but it can be profitable as long as the character remains marketable. Often, people assume that when they buy a computer, it comes with all the necessary software included. However, we have to pay for the licenses of the software, including the IP of whoever created it. This applies to all the software we use. In India, there is a different mindset towards using software. When someone pours their heart and soul into creating something, registering the IP in their name is crucial. Raising awareness about the importance of IP registration is essential, and that is something I strongly believe in.” - Bejoy Arputharaj
